Hi Nki,

Well, ... interesting story. I guess he failed the Interview, right? I guess probably, he did not try to memorize Testking CCNA braindump, expecting only hardcore CCIE questions.

I am not a CCIE yet, so I do not mind the embarashment. I just want to clear any doubt I have so I can pass next time. Welcome corrections from group :-)))

May I try to answer this question?

Q. The network is operating well with no errors. After you complete your WAN router install, what recommendation can you make to the customer concerning their HUB?

A. If your network is operating well with no errors before introducing an Internet link, there's a good chance that it will be OK after the new Internet link (assume the WAN is < 1Mbps). There will be some errors seen on the router interface connecting to the switch, but small number of CRC should not degrade too much the throughput to the Internet. In this case, I would NOT recommend to replace the hub, especially in this budget tightening period (e.g. for customer than cannot approve $20 for a new switch from ebay)!

ONLY if I start seeing many errors, especially true when your LAN/WAN traffic ratio in a form of 20:80, instead of the norm 80:20. This may be due to your staff spending their time surffing the net, watching youtube, rather than using Intranet applications (btw, do you have any intranet application in the first place??), then I would recommend to buy a Switch.

Q. Ali what is your reason for this recommendation.

The first reason is ... it is cheaper to buy a Switch than a hub! In fact, it is harder to find a hub nowaday than when I started learning my CCNA 10 years ago.

The second reason is ... heheh, sure I know you know it already (why would you ask :-) ) is to remove the colision domain in a hub. I would keep reminding to myself to remember to hard code duplex on SW and Router, or it wont make much difference.

Cheers,

Huan
