This knowledge is not prerequisite for CCIE and comes from history and/or
experience. Hub is a dated device.
I know it's not an excuse for any professional to not know the difference,
and to quickly assert advantages of per port collision domains and augment
medium sharing.
But maybe the guy didn't have any experience or was just nervous.
What about other questions?

P.S.: Also marketing knowledge of Cisco product line is not part of CCIE,
but is quite quickly gained and soon "WS-" become second language
