RE: Number of destination ports in Span

Holy cow do I ever need a good vacation! I thought your subject line asked
how many destination ports there were in Spain! I was thinking of any
number of beautiful marinas along the Costa Del Sol and the commercial ports
at Algaciras and Barcelona, just for starters...

I believe that everything is platform-dependent: how many active monitor
sessions a given model will support; how many destination ports are able to
be assigned to any one given monitor session; etc. In the case of my little
3560-8PCs, I can select one single source port and then assign every other
port on the switch as a destination:

SW1(config)#mon sess 1 source int fa0/1 both
SW1(config)#mon sess 1 dest int fa0/2
SW1(config)#mon sess 1 dest int fa0/3
SW1(config)#mon sess 1 dest int fa0/4
SW1(config)#mon sess 1 dest int fa0/5
SW1(config)#mon sess 1 dest int fa0/6
SW1(config)#mon sess 1 dest int fa0/7
SW1(config)#mon sess 1 dest int fa0/8
SW1(config)#mon sess 1 dest int gig0/1
SW1(config)#do sh mon ess 1
SW1(config)#end
SW1#sh mon sess 1

Session 1
---------
Type : Local Session
Source Ports :
    Both : Fa0/1
Destination Ports : Fa0/2-8,Gi0/1
    Encapsulation : Native
          Ingress : Disabled

I have no idea how current this document is, as I'm off to dinner and
haven't read it very thoroughly (any time recently), but for what it's
worth...

And specifically from the above (as it would apply to the hardware listed
for the R&S lab):

What I can tell you is that I just did another quick test on one of my 3560s
(I'd post from the CLI but something just this very moment went south in my
lab and I'm not going to bother bringing it all back up tonight). It kicked
an error when I tried to configure a third monitor session, so the document
has at least some credence...
