RE: CCIE in Data Centre Technologies ???

From a "testing perspective" the CCIE tracks are concerned with implementing
based on provided tasks. CCDE, as you noted, is concerned about designs.
If the CCIE-DC were concerned with design, your lab would simply be "build a
data center". :)

Are you able to get out of work (or have your employer think it's a good
idea to be out of productive work) for 6-12 months?

All DC's don't employ all of those technologies. All CCIE tracks don't cover
every single piece of building every single network.

Somewhere lines have to be drawn for "most commonly occuring" technologies.

Just my two cents.

Scott

Well....

If Data Centers do not require any "Design"... and that's not what the CCDE
is about...

Or there is no plans to cover this aspect of the career, then what's the
point?

I mean every Data Center requires a CCIE+++ or a CCIE with a few disciplines
outside of just the scope of any one CCIE Track.

Mostly every Data Center / Co-Lo I've worked on so far requires Security, RS
and what I'd at least like to think of as CCDE...

Not to mention some that I needed skills that are covered by SP, Content
Networking/Load Balancers, and even Wireless in the case where the Wireless
Controllers are located at the Data Center as well as on premises.

Never mind Storage Area Networking skills - crucial in the Data Center.

Then the interaction with VMWare Server Environments.

Guys... the Virtual Data Center is not a myth and it is no..."Unicorn", it
exists today.

Who here has 7 CCIE's and specializations with Content Networking and at
least one flavor of Load Balancer?

CCIE RS
CCDE
CCIE Security
CCIE Wireless
CCIE SAN
CCIE Voice
CCIE Service Provider

And oh yes... the 6500 and it's options needs to be covered in depth by
some track... It's the center of the universe.

Now some of us get experience with them along the way. But how many of us
are formerly trained in devices that comprise the "Current Data Center"
environment?

Really if Cisco does not brand a certification for such a person aka an
Architect, then are they waiting for CompTIA to do it for them?

I suppose it's taken this long just to get 20,000 people certified as
CCIE's...

And there is the belief that CCIE's know everything already anyway I
suppose.

But I do here a lot of CCIE's complaining about what they are interviewed on
and what others have expected them to know even though it is not in the
Blueprint but is in many environments.

So there is this HUGE and I mean HUGE gap between a Real Data Center and the
CCIE Lab.

I had not even looked at the CCDE Blueprint yet to tell the truth, but I
kind of hoped it covered the SRND's and CVD's to some degree of depth.

Guess I better go check again...

Meanwhile, I'm chalking all the time I can in Campus, Enterprise, and Data
Centers that are chocked full of chassis-based Switches like the 6500 series
and the 4500 series and eventually the Nexus Series. I'd suggest others
consider doing the same. There's definately a market for them.

Yes, I know that there are training providers like Global Knowledge and
KnowledgeNet that cover the Data Center is bits and pieces.

But there really needs to be a 6-12 month Training Program just for
Enterprise Data Centers. In my experience thus far, I always find myself
learning and re-learning more and more and not getting sleep trying to keep
up with or resolve issues in these environments. I can't be the only one.
