The object is that there is supposed to be centralized control of curriculum
and minimal certification level of instructors. As you may know from taking
any other authorized courses, this is done to establish some sort of base
guidelines along with expanding the market for the curriculum.
This way, you know no matter what authorized partner you go to has met the
stringent requirements to achieve whatever level. Now, as you have possibly
seen with other levels of authorized training, there's still a large
difference from one vendor to the next. That part won't change.
The "above and beyond" won't be dictated and therefore will/may vary between
vendors. So while it doesn't necessaily make your choices any simpler, it
possibly increases the number of choices available.
There are many parts that have not been "finnessed" quite yet though. :)

Could someone clear up my confusion as to the advantage to the consumer of a
particular vendor being Cisco authorized, 360, etc? It is well known who
the leading vendors are along with their relative strengths and weaknesses.
A vendor being recognized by Cisco in some special form doesn't change this
understood level of competency in my mind at least. The main difference I
can see is whether or not the consumer pays Cisco flow through costs.
