It might help if you try to perform an operation of some sort:
SW1#telnet 1.0.0.2 179
Trying 1.0.0.2, 179 ... Open
GET my:ccie.number
????????....
[Connection to 1.0.0.2 closed by foreign host]
I have found this to be less effective once you've entered anything else
beforehand:
SW1#telnet 1.0.0.2 179
Trying 1.0.0.2, 179 ... Open

GET my:ccie.number
blah
