Bidirectional PIM

Hi experts,

I'm testing a multicast scenario like this:

                                                                   -------
R3 ------R5
Router only to ping multicast group ------ R2 ----
                                                                   -------
R4

R2 has a frame-relay multipoint subinterface connecting to R3 and R4. All
the routers are running PIM-SM with R2's Lo0 as the RP. R2's multipoint
subif has "pim nbma-mode" configured.

The routers' loopback interfaces have joined the following groups:

R2's Lo0 - 230.2.2.2.
R3's Lo0 - 230.3.3.3
R4's Lo0 - 230.4.4.4
R5's Lo0 - 230.5.5.5

Bidirectional PIM is enabled on all the routes with "ip pim bidir-enable"

The left most router (used only for ping testing) can ping all the groups.
R2 can ping R3, R4 and R5 groups
R3 can ping R5 group
R5 can ping R3 group

BUT

R3 can't ping R4 group and viceversa.

With a "debug ip mpackets", when testing R3-R4 pings there is no output on
either R2, R3 or R4, but you can see packets with all the other ping tests
that work.

I'm wondering if traffic going up the tree can't go through the RP because
R5 to R3 is going up the tree and it's working.

Appreciate any comments or explanations on bidirectional PIM.

Many thanks!!
