RE: DHCP Server/Client Study Notes?

Take some time to study with JUST the CD. By that, I mean, take a couple of
labs that you know really well already, and pretend you don't know anything.

Force yourself to look EVERYTHING up on the CD. Good thing is that you'll
know when you find the right answer. But you'll increase your familiarity
and speed with the docs!

Warning: This is a REALLY SLOW way to do labs. At least in the beginning.
But it's a valuable technique!

Best of luck!

Scott

Thanks Scott,

I will take this info to heart. The DOC-CD is not my strong point by any
stretch, but definitely trying to make it one of them.

Thanks Again,

All aspects of DHCP? Well, I'd sit down, look at them, and ask myself which
are really important for an enterprise environment? The basic operations
will be important obviously... Once you can make pools of addresses on a
central device, and add reservation-pools in there (and have them ACTUALLY
WORK!) you'll have the basic stuff all figured out.

When we talk about relay options, keep in mind that many of the features
aren't supported by the DHCP Server in IOS. Which means they'll interact
with a separate server/software which is not part of your lab environment.
So other than recognizing the basics and knowing where to find them on the
new (pretending-to-be-improved) Documentation, I wouldn't stress out too
horribly about it!

HTH,

Scott

PS. Remember the rule of "Vague Familiarity". That means you need to at
least be vaguely familiar with everything such that you are not surprised.
Then the documentation can work in your favor.

Subject: DHCP Server/Client Study Notes?

Hey group,

I am looking at DHCP Server side of things and Clinet side as well. Can
someone shed some quick notes on what would be the most appropriate part of
studying DHCP? I am looking at the DOC-CD and thinking to my self
(<--probably bad, I know), DO I really need to know all aspects of DHCP
represented by the DOC-CD?

Any Feedback would be great.

P.S. I hope *Scott* turns back up soon!
