The primary difference is that by using the multilink interface, you'll be
able to ping your own address. :)
Otherwise, it's just a different method of organization. I don't believe
the current IOS's would require it (don't have routers in front of me at the
moment to lab up though!)

Betreff: ML-PPP over FR question
Hi group,
I have a question regarding MLPPP over Frame Relay. What is the difference
between the following two configs? I don't understand why we have in the
second example an additional step over the interface Multilink1.
In which case do we need the interface Multilink?
!
interface Serial0/1/0
no ip address
encapsulation frame-relay
frame-relay traffic-shaping
frame-relay interface-dlci 504 ppp Virtual-Template1 frame-relay
interface-dlci 514 ppp Virtual-Template1 frame-relay interface-dlci 524 ppp
Virtual-Template1 no frame-relay inverse-arp !
interface Virtual-Template1
ip address 1.1.1.0 255.255.255.0
ppp multilink
!
and
interface Multilink 1
ip address 1.1.1.0 255.255.255.0
!
interface virtual-template1
ppp multilink group 1
!
!
interface Serial0/1/0
no ip address
encapsulation frame-relay
frame-relay traffic-shaping
frame-relay interface-dlci 504 ppp Virtual-Template1 frame-relay
interface-dlci 514 ppp Virtual-Template1 frame-relay interface-dlci 524 ppp
Virtual-Template1 no frame-relay inverse-arp !
Many thanks in advance
Roger
