RE: When to use DHCP relay ,why not IP helper address?

DHCP relay configuration is added on top of the IP helper and allows you to
fine tune the requests, adding options. With smart relay the ip helper will
send DHCP request to the secondary addresses if there is no DHCP response
from the server.

With UDP broadcasts you can tune it to forward more or less protocols, using
"ip forward-protocol udp" command or its "no ." form to disable the
defaults.

Not all just 8.

. TACACS (49)

. DNS (53)

. BOOTP/DHCP Server (67)

. BOOTP/DHCP Client (68)

. TFTP (69)

. NetBIOS Name Service (137)

. NetBIOS Datagram Service (138)

My question still remains!

I wonder what is the advantage of DHCP relay over IP helper address?
