Dear Pavel and Rik,

Thank you for your feedback. Well I am planning to rent rack close to
lab like one month prior to LAB. I am almost 90 days away from Lab and
intend to practice MST, Spanning tree features and topics like that more
frequently...

Surely I will check if I could get 8 port 3560 switch to play..

Regards

One of the reasons Cat 2970 was discontinued was that it was too good.
Cisco just thought it was inapropriate to have cheap L3 switch, or at
least that's the rumor.

Anyway, if it is for the LAB, it'd try to emulate the HW as much as
possible, not only because of default switch behavior, but also because
of specific hardware properties each platform possesses.

The big thing you will be missing is the QoS features. These are a must

the only way to really dig into those is by using the 3560/3750 series

and
believe me, you don't want to miss that one.

If budget is a concern get one of the 8-port 3560 switches. Inexpensive
but
can run the advanced image just as the bigger models.

Hi experts

With reference to R&S I would like to inquire the functionality of Layer
2 and layer 3 switches..

I believe I can do STP, MST, and hardcore switching on Cisco 2970 switch
as well. Well I won't be able to create L3 etherchannel but surely able
to create L2 ether channel... What other limitation we have for Cisco
2970 switch...

I have one 3550 and would like to add another switch (Cisco 2970 - due
budget constraints) to practice core Switching on my home lab. Please
let me know if you think other way around

Thank you for your help and support

Regards
