Run it just in lab environment. I won't recommend running IPv6 on 3550
switches in production environment as it runs in software.

Well, this is unbelievable. IPv6 is present at least in this particular

image:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Switch(config)#do sh ver | inc IOS

Cisco IOS Software, C3550 Software (C3550-IPSERVICES-M), Version

12.2(44)SE1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

Switch(config)#

Switch(config)#

Switch(config)#

Switch(config)#ipv6 ?

  access-list Configure access lists

  general-prefix Configure a general IPv6 prefix

  hop-limit Configure hop count limit

  host Configure static hostnames

  icmp Configure ICMP parameters

  local Specify local options

  neighbor Neighbor

  route Configure static routes

  router Enable an IPV6 routing process

  source-route Process packets with source routing header options

  unicast-routing Enable unicast routing

Switch(config)#

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

And no need to change the sdm template:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Switch#sh sdm prefer | inc current

 The current template is the default template.

Switch#

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Anyone has a clue about the logic of this ?

Thanks.

In the 3560's, there is the dual-ipv4-and-ipv6 template not available in the

3550's:

++++++++++++++++++++++

Switch(config)#sdm prefer ?

  access multicast and qos/acl bias, drop unicast

  extended-match Using extended match for unicast routing

  routing unicast bias, drop qos/acl

  vlan vlan bias, drop routing

  <cr>

Switch(config)#

++++++++++++++++++++++

Even with the routing template, no ipv6 support available:

++++++++++++++++++++++

Switch#

Switch#sh sdm prefer | inc current

 The current template is the routing extended-match template.

Switch#

Switch#conf t

Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.

Switch(config)#ipv6 ?

% Unrecognized command

Switch(config)#ipv6 unicast-routing

                 ^

% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

Switch(config)#

++++++++++++++++++++++

All this has to do with fall-back bridging. I remember that we could

fallback bridge IPv6 in the 3550's. Now it seems we can't:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3550/software/release/1

2.2_44_se/configuration/guide/swfallbk.html#wp1038531

So i was assuming that this was due to the fact that the 3550's now support

ipv6. But i can't find a way to enable it.

Change your SDM? Even on a 3560, none of the commands show up until you do

so!

How did you enabled ipv6 on your 3550 ? I have mine with 12.2(46)SE and i

don't see trace of ipv6 on it:

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Switch#sh ver | inc IOS

Cisco IOS Software, C3550 Software (C3550-IPSERVICESK9-M), Version

12.2(46)SE, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2) Switch# Switch# Switch#conf t Enter

configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.

Switch(config)#ipv6 unicast-routing

                 ^

% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

Switch(config)#

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Anyone has any official document saying that the 3550's now support ipv6 ?

Thanks.
