What's funny is that the majority of certifications require recertification.
As part of the recertification they require taking specific tests, or
documented training classes. The CCIE as an example allows you to take the
written for another CCIE, no reason to use it only for the recert, but
rather double dip and learn some more. CCNA/CCDA/CCNP/CCDP can all be
recerted by taking the CCIE Written. Therefore you are pushed to get the
next one, simply by the recertification requirements.
