Amin,
The 6500 is serving two roles in the voice network. It's providing
Ethernet switching and PSTN connectivity for your main site. For Ethernet
switching you could just use any Ethernet switch you have laying around
assuming it supports trunking and VLANs. For PSTN connectivity you could
use a regular router similar to your remote site routers. In fact you
could add a switch card (NM or WIC) to this new main site router and not
need an Ethernet switch for your main site at all.

For the VG248 you could just do without it. If you do want an analog
endpoint to replace the VG248 you could use a ATA186 or FXS card in the
main site router.

Before your lab date you should get some rack time so that you can get
comfortable with the 6500 and VG248 but you shouldn't need more than 2 or
3 sessions. In fact you should be able to learn everything needed for the
VG248 within an hour or so of practice. The vast majority of your rack
time should be getting comfortable with QoS for the 6500.

Voice rack time is pretty cheap nowadays if you know where to look. You
should be able to get the 2 or 3 sessions for about $15 each. This means
it'll only cost you $45 as opposed to $4500 to learn everything you need
on the 6500 and VG248 ;-)
