RE: OSPF multiple processes

Much of it is looking at all your requirements! The CCIE lab is known for
convoluted thinking (e.g. bad real-world designs!), but when you start
sitting down and tallying the "I want this" versus "I don't want that" but
find you have to meet ALL the requirements...

Keep your options open!

Thanks Scott...

I am going through the IE-VOL3 labs right now, and some of them have these
double processes to meet the requirements. But I cannot quite put my finger
on it.
Yes, it goes without saying you want to avoid this in the real world (the "2
a.m. in the morning" syndrome)

You really just have to understand what you are getting yourself into!

If you don't want things talking between each other, separate processes is a
great way to keep things separated!

If you DO want them to talk, you'll need to redistribute. If you have a
larger network with multiple redistribution points, remember that E1/E2
routes are less preferred, and that E2 routes don't increment cost, so you
may end up with suboptimal paths.

But as long as you understand what you are doing and know what to expect,
you can find great value in some situations for setting up your processes
that way!

On the flip side, always keep things as simple as possible! While you may
now appreciate the amusement that nobody else understands your network, just
think about how you would feel were you a victim of a network design! :)

Subject: OSPF multiple processes

Hi experts,

Does anyone know where to find good information about the
scenarios/benefits/pifalls/etc of running 2 OSPF processes?

For what I can tell it seems to be handy as a alternative for virtual-links
or tunnels, or to advertise summaries to a specific neighbor, but I don't
quite get it yet.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks
Marc
