His book is marketed as preparation for the Written, not the Lab Exam.
Did you believe it was inadequate for the Written?

Subject: Odom's book 3rd edition
I've heard and seen many people recommending Odom's book for CCIE study.
Does anyone feel Odom's 3rd edition CCIE book is really better than the
2nd
edition? Here is my observation after finishing the 3rd edition.
First
of all I saw "official" keyword is missing from the 3rd edition title.
In the 3rd edition CCIE core technology materials have been reduced
dramatically. For example BGP part is only 39 pages (!!!) and nowhere
I
can't find the BGP path selection and the famous acronym "N WILLA OMNI".
In
the new book has new materials covering IPv6, MPLS etc from the updated
blueprint, and removed the wireless chapters. I just don't feel the
3rd
edition is a complete book to read CCIE core technology. So readers be
aware.
Regards,
Tom.
