RE: does it really start at 7am, RTP SP exam?

To each his own, of course, but never underestimate the power of a good
sleep-deprived coma! I personally settled into my seat both physically and
mentally exhausted, having not slept even a wink -- in spite of mile after
mile after mile of walking around SJ the day prior in a misguided attempt to
wear myself out enough to shut down. My terror/panic had less to do with
not knowing my stuff than it did with simply not having the lab experience
as a point of reference. I got nervous just walking towards the campus the
day prior, as if I were approaching the Dark Tower itself! Another part of
the problem was simply that I'm a night owl and became even more so during
lab prep, so forcing myself to sleep on command all of the sudden proved an
impossible challenge. Drugs might've been a wise investment on my part.

In retrospect, though, I realized that in a way it worked to my advantage; I
tunneled. I was simply too exhausted to be distracted with any nagging
internal BS, so all that I >could< do was just get down to business and work
my way through the day and get the hell out.

Of course, if I had it to do all over again (and I may well someday if I can
just get refocused on SP), I'd pay a small fortune for a good night's sleep
and a bunch of nagging internal BS, blah, blah, blah.

The moral of the story is not to totally despair if you fail to arrive
perfectly rested and settled. Frazzled and schizophrenic works too...

Cheers all,

Scott

Starts 7.15am sharp! I flew all the way from APAC to RTP for the 1st time,
adjusted to the jetlag, had lots of rest, appeared for the lab and nailed
it. Point is - if you're ready, you won't feel nervous. As spoken Wes, not
sleeping the night before - it's a no no for me.
