  OK, what about this.. you make the trunk port asymmetrical.. dot1q tunnel :)
then make it exit in the segment where it will be the designated port for
it is the designated port tunneled through the root port on one end and out
on the relevant segment on the other end... the downstream switches will
have a tunneled designated port which is the tunneled designated port
all the way to the root bridge.. it is worth a try ;)
