Assuming you haven't taken the lab yet, this is a very typical question.
The people who write the labs know all the "normal" methods for completing a
task so if they want you to do something a non-standard way then they will
rule the "normal" methods out within the task requirements. Otherwise, if
the task does not specifically rule a certain method out then using that
method is acceptable. Remember this: the lab doesn't often tell you
specifically how to complete a task but it will often tell you how not to
complete that task. Either way, you should know if you can redistribute
connected or not and if you still don't understand the requirements you can
approach the proctor for clarification.
For your question, I would consider "advertising directly to the process" as
using a network statement. To me any form of redistribution is not in this
category. However, asking the proctor would clarify this for sure.
