OT: SFP vs GBIC

Hi guys,

This is an Off Topic question:

I'm going thru material on the 6500 and see references to

SFP - Small Form Factor Plugables

and

Gbic's

What's the difference between these 2 items?

I think of a Gbic as basically a media converter that plugs into a 6500
gigabit module/blade.

Is a SFP just another type of Gbic?

Thanks, Tim
