I used to tunnel RDP (Windows Remote Desktop) through SSH using PUTTY a long
time ago and it worked great. I used DynDNS for public address tracking so
that I didn't have to get a static IP from my ISP or continually check to
see what my address happened to be on any given day...it seemed to work just
fine.

Here's a link that illustrates tunneling via PUTTY...not sure if it was
exactly how I did it, but it might be worth checking into. Also, ensure
that port 22 isn't blocked where you are trying to connect from (e.g. work)
or you won't be able to use this form of access.

This would be the free alternative by the way. Some of the other
recommendations people have made sound pretty good as well.
