I wonder on a solution like this whether you would be permitted to create a
new Loopback interface with a higher numerical value to get the RP you want,
or whether they are hinting for you to configure the RP on an interface
which has a higher numerical value in the first place , even if its not a
Loopback interface?

As far as I am aware (auto-rp) the primary RP should
be the interface with the higher numerical ip address.
So, in your case R4 loopback0 address should be the
designated RP if the R4 loopback address is higher
than R2 loopback0.
