Hi Dinesh,
The problem is - its not that simple!
I have found that you have to learn all the techniques and know when to use
each. Like a craftsman learning his tools.
For example,
Route maps are great for setting communities and metrics etc,
prefix lists, very little config, very powerful for networks filtering
filter fists , again powerful for applying reg expr to information
That's my view anyway.. : )

Subject: BGP route filtering technique order of use
hi group.
I'm trying to outline the best technique to use when filtering routes in
BGP.
Is the following the best order for bgp routers coming IN:
1) use route-map
2) use filter-list for AS paths
3) use distribute-list
4) use prefix list
Is the following the best order for bgp routers going OUT:
1) use distribute-list
2) use prefix list
3) use route-map
4) use filter-list for AS paths
It would be good to know the best order so you can be consistent.
Dinesh
