Wow, nice spin you got slapped with. We had multiple VARs for about two years
due to being acquired and in some cases due to being unhappy. CLC are a tool
that VARs can bargain with when they want to sweeten the deal for you without
dropping the price. Because we were in the middle of a huge set of purchases,
and we weren't attached to any single VAR, we got CLC from a few different
VARs because they all wanted to build a relationship with us for future
purchases, but not by making zero percent profit on the current deal. Also,
your management may like them because it's often easier to submit a $1.2
million PO for Cisco gear that includes "free training" than it would be to
submit a $1.195 million PO for Cisco gear, plus a budget proposal for 50k in
training for your team. They're the free agent of POs and budgets, and add
nice flexibility (by allowing you to hide training money in a big pot :) ).

The idea that CLC are only for small customers and small deals is
counter-intuitive for a reason.
