I totally dont blame you man....this has just been oscillating around
and not coming to rest but this is the conclusion i think:
1. with interfaces configured for sparse-mode, you have dm-fallback
enabled (default) and you loose RP; groups will fall back to dense
mode and traffic will be forwarded out interfaces configured for dense
mode only and since you have sparse mode only, traffic shud be
dropped. However, Joe B has tested this and has seen that traffic gets
sent out of interfaces configured for sparse-mode.
2. When interfaces are configured for sparse-dense mode, you configure
"no ip pim dm-fallback", and you loose RP information, groups will not
fall back to densemode and the traffic destined for those groups will
get dropped.
Hope I summed up that right and that helps.
