Policing on a layer 3 switch port

I configured policing two ways on a switch port. I used the legacy
rate-limit command and the MQC method. Both are working fine; however, I
Was wondering if there was a better way to view the conforming(transmitting)
and exceeding(dropping) stats then just the "sh int g1/48 rate-limit" and/or
"sh service-policy int g1/48" methods respectively?

When I do ping test from that same Switch to another device out the G1/48
interface, those show commands capture all the packets. When I send traffic
through G1/48 from a back-end device(R1) hanging off another VLAN on that
switch, the show commands don't seem to capture hardly anything, even though
I know for sure traffic is transversing that switch through g1/48. I.E. I
send a ping with timeout 0, 1500 size and repeating at 1000000. I see maybe
a hit on the show commands like every couple seconds. I disabled cef and
fast switching on interface g1/48 thinking it had something to do with that,
but no luck. Any ideas or any other way to better grab the conformed and
exceeded stats? It would be nice to know in the future how much my
rate-limiting QOS is dropping packets accurately.

R1<--->SW1(G1/48)<------>R3

Thanks in advance.

regards,

Dale
