I am not sure BGP behaves like RIP, in that when you do a clear ip
route * the protocol actually clears its database and requests for new
prefixes.Hence all the BGP commands like : clear ip bgp * in/out, clea
ip bgp nei x.x.x.x, etc

I would siggest you read up on the fundamental operations of the
protocol and this shud make more sense.
