Hi,
Dynamips will crash if the PF usage reaches 2 Gig for a single process, its
a Windows Issue, thats why we split dynamips server processes into multiple
instances so that any single process should not cross 2 gig limit of PF for
a single process. Furthermore, I did my CCIE on a 2.3 GHz Athlon X2 with 2
GiG ram Desktop Machine and Linux running on it and connected to the
internet for me to telnet into it from anywhere using my laptop. I never
ever had any crashing issues with linux. I had the same crashing issues with
XP. So In my case, the issue is rather OS Dependent then Hardware Dependent.
If you are talking about the IE Topology, i ran full topologies with full
load and my cpu load never crossed 50% at any time. 2 GiG RAM is more than
enough if you are doing CCIE R&S Stuff with standard 6 routers, 4 Switches
and 3 BBs, you just have to specify some fine tuned features such as
ghost-ios etc.. If you have hardware switches it will surely decrease the
load on the pc itself.
