I'm quite new on this list myself and I had the same worry as you when
I started. It seems to me when you send an email to the group the
mailer daemon will forward it to everybody on the list except yourself
(kind of like split horizon). If you are worried that your emails are
not getting to the group you can check the archives on the website to
see if your emails appear. Note that the archives are only updated
once a week (on thursdays) so you may have to wait a while.
I find not seeing my own emails a little disturbing as well. I think
it is because these days we are accustomed to web based discussion
boards where you see your post as soon as you make it. Groupstudy on
the other hand is "old school"!
