You may be right Sadiq. In fact, I was just thinking of a time last year
when I tried this on a 3750 (that I screwed up trying out that new archive
business on) but couldn't get it going for the life of me. Maybe I just
read that thread wrong...it led me to believe that the example of the 3620
actually ended up working on the 3550 in question...
Sorry all. Proof positive that we newly-minted CCIEs really are just

I think that particular case worked on a 3620 router, which inherently
has an ethernet port on it (not the one on any module). I have only
seen this method used on platforms which have a "native" ethernet
ports for management on them.
As for the catalyst switches, I doubt if that approach wld work though.
