For layer 2 make sure the trunking encapsulation is the same on the 
interfaces in the group and the port-channelx interface.  Make sure that the 
lacp/pagp modes are compatible on the physical interfaces.  I'm sure that 
someone has a better method, but I'd start by making sure the trunks on the 
physical interfaces come up first.  Then create the etherchannel.
