If you are using a backup interface using the backup command, you'll need to
use a sub-interface. This is because a main interface does not go down if the
DLCI goes down, however a subinterface does. And if you need to ensure
connectivity exists across the frame-relay circuit, you'll need to use
end-to-end keepalives as well.

I personally always like to set it up this way when permitted, becuase then to
test fail-over I can shut down the remote end of the frame-relay circuit and
