RE: Laptop for Dynamips

I am not sure I fully understand your question, but I will try and answer.
If you run dynamips under Vista you will have a performance hit over running
it under Linux. But even with the hit, you should be able to run 10 routers
OK.

Make sure you are using the correct IdlePC value and your configuration has
ghostios=True, and sparcemem=True. Also, adjust your ram so it is the
minimum needed. You can usually get away with much less ram then what Cisco
specifies.

As for the virtual pod software. The reason I was developing the virtual
pod disk was to allow Windows users access to Dynamips by using a linux boot
CD. Since the dynamips author ported the program to Windows, it is not
really needed. I have been considering porting the management interface to
Windows as a number of people told me that was a nice feature.

Take care,

Paul,
Are these results due to the Vista OS? I have a Dell 2 Core with 4GB and am

sluggish at 10 routers.
Should I consider the Vista.
PS: what is the status of the development with the virtual pod?

Thanks
