Manipulating the AD of the EIGRP External routes

Hi ,

Is there any restriction in manipulating the AD of the EIGRP external
routes.

For instance,I would like to change the AD of the external routes from
170 to AD of 100 using the command " distance 100 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 "
in the EIGRP process,the command does not seem to take effect.

I see the external routes retaining the AD of the 170,though the internal
routes take the new AD of 100.
