Every two years from your CCIE Lab date you need to have passed a written
qualifying exam. If you haven't, you are suspended. Even while suspended,
you have another year to pass a written exam. If you can't manage to pass
within that year, you go to inactive status. In order to recouperate from
that, you need to pass the written AND lab all over again.
I'm sure it was so much fun the first time around that it might be worth
doing again, but on the other hand, passing the written is much simpler! :)
They send you e-mails, or at least they used to in order to remind you of
impending dates!
As for whether you'd start back at CCNA or not, I suppose that would all
depened on your knowledge level and pension for exams. There's not a lot of
point in doing so if you actually know a lot. If you are finding yourself
not knowing or remembering that much, then it may well be a good idea to
start with the basics again and try to set up a foundation of knowledge that
will hopefully not erode over time!
Just a thought...

Hello Team,
My CCIE certification has expired completely including the lab. I would like
to renew, I was wondering if anyone has renewed after both written and lab
have expired. Would you want to start back at CCNA go through CCNP again and
CCIE or would you start at the CCIE written exam?
Thanks again for feedback.
Sincerely,
John
