You can get some good deals on used gear running Cat OS now. The problem is
space. I have plenty of equipment these days and CatOS switches have a
tendency to make a lot of noise in the house. I need a basement like Mr
Morris :)
You're quite right that it can be very useful to know multiple vendors and
legacy platforms,. The latest 'tracks' do not cater for this even though the
'field' can provide plenty of exposure. As well as the latest in Cisco
switching over the years I have worked around a lot of Foundry, Cabletron
and CatOS switches, even 3Com Netbuilder and ACS as Im sure do many people
on the list.
