The time it takes to get through any CCIE track is significant. I would say
if someone has one IE and they really want to do another one then more power
to them but remember that there are many opportunities in the world of
contracting to be exposed to all manner of new technology implementations
while you are getting paid. You do need to be able to keep up though!
A balance of decent opportunities to learn new things at work that leverages
what experience you already have followed by further research on your own
time may work just fine for many people who would rather spend a little more
time with the family than be locked away in a dungeon doing another IE track
after work.
There is another side to consider as well. Increasingly the work we do is
steered by less technical people who earn more than the techies, and
compared to them many of the people on this board have got more than enough
technical experience to get the job done.
