Hi Edmond,
Some engineers start up with a desire to certify in the areas of
security or voice.
Nevertheless, they get to believe popular opinions that a good
communications engineer, regardless of specialty, should also be
strong in the areas of routing & switching. If the connectivity is
bad, what would a good voice or security design and implementation do
for the client, they reason.
As a matter of fact, I personally hold onto that paradigm. I work for
a cisco partner company that insists that all engineers finish with
their CCNP before specializing with their CCSP and CCVP. To some
extent, I would say the productivity of the engineers is paying off
for the business. The CCSP for instance is so much product-specific
and doesnt make a good communications engineer. (My 2 pesewas!)
So certifying in several tracks, with R&S often included, is usually a
logical thing to do for some. It actually pays.
Felix
