Hi all,
I have a quick question. I have heard conflicting solutions when asked to
configure frame relay back to back between two routers. Traditionally I
would always enable frame relay switching on the router, put a standard
frame map on the interface, and make one side the FR DCE. However, I seem
to recall Scott Morris saying that enabling frame relay switching on a
router disables IP routing for that interface, or doesn't truly answer the
question. But that does not make sense to me because when I do that I am
able to run routing protocols on the frame interfaces, and they act just
like any other frame interfaces. So I am guessing I am either imagining I
heard that, misunderstood him, or am missing something fundamental about the
question. Additionally, I know you could also disable keepalives on the
interface, and that will make it come up without "frame relay switching"
enabled.
So my question is, how would you answer a "make this back to back link a
frame relay connection?" Would you enable frame relay switching, just
disable keepalives, and is there a difference between the two?
Thanks!
Eric
