I don't think those things are network trivia at all, given the
employer. If you want to work a high-level R&S operations job in a very
large network, I would expect interviewees to explain traceroute and TCP
in detail without batting an eye, and I would want them to at least know
what CSPF is.
If I were interviewing somebody as an implementation consultant for
commercial/enterprise converged networks, I wouldn't care so much about
the details of TCP, but I would want him to be able to talk in depth
about how WAN design and implementation might influence stuff like
voice, video, resiliency, disaster recovery, etc.
Jobs are getting increasingly complex and specialized in this field.
