RE: building the security rack ASA 5505s do the trick?

Hey DR,

I know nothing about the security track and I'm by no means an ASA expert
(probably novice would be the most correct). However, I just did a small
project involving the 5505. Maybe have a look at the documentation on that
product carefully and compare it against the blueprint. The 5505 with Base
is very limited in what it can do. The 5505 in general is limited as
compared to others in the ASA line. For example, I wanted to do "security
contexts," which is, as I understand things, the ASA rendition of VM
firewalls within a single chassis. With the appropriate licensing, you can
do that with any platform *other* than the 5505. Also look at limitations
on basics, such as number of VLANs and trunking support. Overall, my advice
to the client was to move to the 5510 or higher in the future (they needed
some fairly advanced features for what they were trying to accomplish).

Regards,

Scott

Subject: building the security rack ASA 5505s do the trick?

Are there any major limitations I would face if I used 2
5505s with the basic license in my security rack?

I suppose I could just use Qemu and emulate them, but I would like to have
the hardware. Any tips?

DR
