Subject: Minimum Burst on CAR
To: Cisco certification <ccielab@groupstudy.com>
Hi Group
Need your help "rate-limit using CAR"
I need to limit the traffic entering the network to 1M with the minimum
burst value. Can you confirm whether my burst calculation is correct?
As per Cisco documentation the minimum burst value = bps / 2000 and the
value has to start from 1000
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios124/124cr/hqos_r/qos_q1h.htm#wp1080850
So for 1M the minimum burst would be= 1000000 / 2000 = 500bytes. But the
lowest value has to start from 1000.
Here is my answer:
Rack1R8(config-subif)# rate-limit input 1000000 1000 2000 conform-action
transmit exceed-action drop
Illegal normal burst size
Increasing normal burst size to 1500 *--- But IOS automatically increase
the burst value to 1500 *
Rack1R8(config-subif)#
Rack1R8(config-subif)#do sh run int fas
Rack1R8(config-subif)#do sh run int fas 0/0.28
interface FastEthernet0/0.28
rate-limit input 1000000 1500 2000 conform-action transmit exceed-action
drop
Rack1R8(config-subif)#
Is the burst value 1500 correct?
Thanks
Regards
Pandi
