This question has been around for long time.
I think there is no one best way to do it.
It defers for each individual and even for each test for the same
individual.
I did very good drawings with colors, spend time and put lot of details and
failed those tests.
I did only partial drawings with very basics, each one showing 2-4 routers
with inbound and outbound arrows to accomplish the given tasks when I passed
the test.
I assume when you are ready it does not matter how your drawings are.

I've been wondering about this as well. Specifically how much diagramming
should one do? Obviously we won't have time to sit and diagram every
scenario (one for BGP, one for OSPF, etc.), so is a good strategy to redraw
the L3 once and use different colors for protocols? And is it worth it to
redraw the IPs?
