The short answer to this question is YES. Know the DocCD. Love it.
Dream about it. Practice reciting the table of contents to yourself on
the subway while you commute to work (I really did this... is that
crazy?). It's your only friend during your 8 hour ordeal.
Long answer:
In my last month of study, I cut down my practice lab/scenario time to 2 -
3 nights a week, and the rest of the time I studied the DocCD exclusively.
When I found something that didn't make sense, I tested it on my lab rack.
When I wrote the CCIE exam, I knew where to find everything in the DocCD.
I didn't necessarily know the syntax or how to configure the behaviour I
was looking for, but I knew the feature I needed from the description
given, I could find it, and I knew enough about the less common features
that I was able to put together a solution that worked. If you could find
the right spot in the DocCD you could solve the problem.
Re hard practice labs:
Check out NMC... they made me cry.
