      In ospf you do can Link as well as Area authentication. In both cases
you can use plain text or MD5 authentication. Since your questions talks
about area authentication, You would need area authentication command under
the ospf process.Additionally, It is also recommended that you specify the
Key under the interfaces participating in the ospf authentication process.
