Kuldip,
            Your configuration would have worked if you were using
Fastethernet interface on the router. Since you are using standard
Ethernet interface you were running into the issue. Your question was
answered by brian correctly, I am just clarifying the basis of my
answer.

When I was preparing for my CCIE a couple of years ago, even the
encapsulation option was not available under standard Ethernet
sub-interface. Seems like Cisco added that command with limited
functionality quite a while ago.

I feel old now ;-(
