I think they should go back to the 20 point rule. If you didn't score 20 points then don't come back for 6 months. However an additional rule is a certain number of points by noon.

Wow, now THAT would stem the growth of the CCIE certification! Many of us
would have to waive off and go back to our normally scheduled careers if
every failed attempt meant six more months of study and lap prep. I'd drop
it like a hot rock if that were made official...

I've heard that Cisco may change their re-take policy from 30 days to 6
months for failed tests...but just rumors so far.
