Be careful with that. If your partner gets their hands on your number, they
can hold on to it up to a year after you leave them (if you leave
voluntarily). I had a friend of mine leave to go to work for another
partner and his old company pulled his number back to keep their gold
status.

I find myself in a similar dilemma - working for a Cisco partner,
self-sponsoring my CCIE preps and fees (taking my lab in december), and not
wanting my IE number to be associated with my company if I pass.
