So there is actually a very convenient way to handle this via the Dynagen
CLI. It's the import/export function, which is quite slick. Not
well-documented, but slick.
So the flash capability of the 3700 is not necessary to gain the
functionality I was looking for, but am likely to stay with it just because
of some of the feedback I got here.
Thanks again all!

Likely! The truth is that the 3700s offer an advantage where using Dynamips
for "real-world" stuff is concerned. I just wanted to ensure I wasn't going
to compromise my studies in making this change.
One of the main advantages that I see the 3700s holding over the 3600s is
the ability to populate the external flash. With the 3600s, saving off
multiple configs is not convenient (at least I haven't found a convenient
approach, open to suggestions!). With the 3700s, I simply populate the
compact flash (Slot0) w/ 16 MB of RAM and I can save configs to my heart's
desire. In my studies, I have not cared about saving anything. I reason
that I should be able to build any config from scratch with great speed and
reasonable ease. Thus, no need to save anything. However, on the
"production" side, it's nice to be able to quickly load a given environment
for a client. For example, I troubleshot an EEM issue in Dynamips over the
weekend (the real router configs were e-mailed to me, I loaded them into a
modified IEWB topology). The client will be on site where this problem
exists at some random point in time today and will call seeking my guidance.
Having the ability to launch Dynamips and load up my test/troubleshooting
configs in a matter of seconds would be just the duck's nuts!
And Darby - here is another case where someone could take the cynical view
and say "hey, he's earning part of his living using this Dynamips thing,
which is running IOS in a "non-compliant" manner!" The other view to take,
though, is that I'm saving Cisco from yet another TAC case! And besides
that, this is a "freebie" for a client that I highly value...
Anyway, it's time to get back to studying instead of lab tweaking (again)!!
Thanks again all...
