Let's try not to bring everyone into the mix of what I'm sure is a purely
personal business arrangement there. I have done work for NLI in the past,
and >I< never had problems getting paid. I can't say the same about NLI's
sponsoring CLP - Tech 2000 though. But still, not everyone has the same
experiences with anyone or everyone, so don't try to lump them with any quip
about "Is this how the game is played?"
If you feel like being a contract lawyer, go take Victor's case and analyze
the details. Until then, help him out however you want or however you can,
but no sense dragging this in the public view without a representation of
both sides. If Brad wants to engage publically, I'm sure that'll be his
decision to make.
I do feel bad for Victor, and I agree it's very sad news prima facie.
Victor has things to think about and has been given some contacts by which
to engage however he sees fit.
Ethics are an interesting term, and always depend on certain viewpoints as
well as having all the information rather than just a convenient little
snippet. Let's all just play nice.

Subject: Re: NLI R&S volume 7 Lab 3
This is very sad news to be hearing.
Are you guys saying that that NLI asked you to write workbooks for the CCIE
Lab Studies and that NLI, Brad Ellis, or whoever you struck a deal with did
not pay you for your work...
Well...
Is this how the game is played?
Hmmm...
Brad,
Is this true? Are you doing what they say you are doing or have already
done?
Ouch!
I guess if the labs are to be given away as freeware then who would buy them
anyway from NLI.
Anyone who has seen Victor's work (not quite a CCIE with digits yet) knows
he is a quality engineer, and is quite capable with the CLI - A young Brian
Dennis or Val Pavlichencko in the making...
This is not good for NLI and may not bode well for other vendors of
workbooks as well.
Is this common practice?
I've also heard of stories where some CCIE instructors have not been paid
for training for some of the named vendors on this list.
Ouch!!!
Guys,
We need to be ethical and we need to play by the rules.
Satisfy these folks in private or something - or do we wait till this story
hits all of the forums for the rest of the Internet to see...
I get a feeling it won't be long if not handled quickly, courteously, and
very professionally.
